Description
Sound and thermal insulation in one self-adhesive layer
ST-Mat is a self-adhesive closed-cell rubber foam that keeps out heat, cold and noise. It’s light and very sticky, so it follows the curves and corners of a campervan interior and stays put. You can also use it as a van thermal liner.
Key benefits
- Sound and heat in one layerInsulates against heat, cold and noise, so you fit one material instead of two.
- Moisture-proof and fire-retardantClosed-cell rubber foam that’s water-resistant too.
- Follows every curveLight and flexible, with a very strong adhesive that stays put on curved van panels.
- One piece, your length1 m wide and sold by the metre. Order 3 units and you get one 3 m length.

Where to use it: which thickness?
| Thickness | Where InShop uses it |
|---|---|
| 3 mm | Under a plywood floor laid without battens. It’s the only thickness to use there, because thicker foam compresses over time and lets the ply flex. Also the full-floor layer over 6 mm rib strips. |
| 6 mm | Van door frames, over 1.5 mm sound deadening mat. Strips cut to the height of corrugated floor ribs. |
| 10 mm | Side panels and wheel arches. Under the bonnet on vintage cars (fire-retardant). |
| 19 / 25 mm | Campervan walls and roofs where you have the depth, or between floor battens. Generally, the thicker the insulation, the better the result. |
ST-Mat is layer 2: fit it over sound deadening mats. See Soundproofing Basics and our project examples.
How to install
- Clean the surface with panel thinners or an alcohol-based cleaner. Don’t use white spirit, as it leaves an oily film.
- Cut the exact shape first. The adhesive is very strong and the foam can’t be peeled off again without damage.
- Peel back one corner of the backing and stick that corner down. Then slowly peel away the rest while pressing the foam on.
