Description

Layer 1 · Sound deadeningVibroFiltr

Lightweight damping for doors, roofs and bonnets

VibroFiltr sound deadening mats stop the drumming and resonance of thin metal body panels. The 1.5mm mat is the lightest in the range: an effective first layer that adds little weight or thickness behind trim panels.

Key benefits

  • Stops panel drummingThe butyl layer adds mass to the panel and turns vibration into a tiny amount of heat.
  • Lightest in the rangeIdeal where weight and space are tight, such as doors, roofs and bonnets.
  • Flat or curved panelsFlexible enough to follow curved panels. The foil face stiffens the mat and protects the butyl.
  • Water-resistant and anti-corrosionButyl with an aluminium foil face that also seals the panel.

Where to use it

  • Doors
  • Roof
  • Bonnet

On a van door, InShop has used 1.5mm mat on both the door skin and the inner partition. Sound deadening mats are layer 1: they go straight onto bare metal. Add ST-Mat or acoustic felt on top for the best result. See Soundproofing Basics.

How to install

  1. Clean the metal thoroughly with panel thinners or an alcohol-based cleaner. Don’t use white spirit, as it leaves an oily film.
  2. Cut the mat to shape. Wear gloves, because the foil edges are sharp.
  3. Peel off the backing and press the mat onto the panel.
  4. Roll it down firmly with a metal roller until there are no air bubbles. The embossed pattern flattens out when the mat is fully bonded.
  5. Work at a room temperature of at least +16 to +18 °C. In cold conditions, warm the mat with a hairdryer or heat gun.
  6. You don’t need 100% coverage. Covering at least 50% of a panel gives a noticeable result.
