Soundproofing Basics

For the best results, use two or three layers of different soundproofing materials. Each type of material has its own properties that help to reduce different kinds of sounds.

Layer 1: Sound Deadening Mats

Apply this material directly onto the metal panels of your vehicle to eliminate vibrations and road noise.

Layer 3, Option 1: Acoustic Felt

Layer 2: Sound/Thermal Insulation Mats

Made from closed-cell foam, an ST-mat provides both sound and thermal insulation. It is also fire retardant and moisture proof.

It is important to remember that all of these layers may not be practical for all users and installation projects. See our soundproofing and insulation examples, to help you plan the best solution for your needs.
